QRP operation is considered using power levels of 5 watts or less CW and 10 watts or less SSB.

half watt ham

This last week has been very exciting operating on the HF bands. Starting at daybreak, signals worldwide are strong on 10 and 12 meters. My MWdxcc count is up to 17 countries. The amazing aspect of using 500mw output is the success I have had using SSB. 1/2 watt output on CW is, well, 1/2 watt... But on SSB average output is lower than that.  Voice peaks being the point of full 500mw out.

More and more I am learning just how our operating privileges that allow up to 1500 watts really does span the globe.
Another great equalizer is the antenna. Fortunately the HF antenna here is an 8 element log periodic at 18 meters.  But good results can still be obtained with a wire up at a modest height.
Update mW dxcc count is at 30
